LiveWriter versus MarsEdit

This will be a quick post about my blogging client on Macintosh. A few days ago I wrote about my client on Windows, LiveWriter, and its advantages over BlogJet. I ended up standardizing on LiveWriter. I asked BlogJet for a refund. We will see if they are good to their word.

Today I want to talk about what I use on my Mac, specifically on my MacBookPro. On the advice of Michael Hyatt, among others, I am trying out MarsEdit. Hyatt said that once he tried MarsEdit he never looked at another client. So, let’s see what he’s talking about.

First off, the ability to preview a post is far better on MarsEdit. In fact, I am not even sure that LiveWriter supports live Previews. Score one for MarsEdit.

I pasted that image above, MarsEdit logo, using their Media Manager tool, which I gotta say was not straightforward.  In fact, I found it to be impossible to drag folders to their interface. On Windows, inserting an image could not be easier. A simple right click and I’m away to the races. Score this one to LiveWriter.

The Server Options pane on MarsEdit is superior to LiveWriter, simply because the latter doesn’t have one. I am a new blogger and so I cannot see the immediate need for it, but somehow I think it’s a useful feature. I gotta give this one to MarsEdit.

Tagging is not straightforward, but then as of this date anyway, I am not sure how to use tags. Gotta work on that.

Lastly, there is the ease and simplicity of Macintosh, or so would have been the case until Windows 7 and now, Windows 10. The ease of use differential has been eliminated in my estimation. Call it a draw.

Overall, I think it’s a tie. I’ll keep playing with MarsEdit on the Mac and write a few posts to see how it goes.
