Statistics Package for the Social Sciences!

Statistics Package for the Social Sciences!

Today is May 6th and I am happy to announce (mostly to myself, I suppose) that data collection is done! With the help of five wonderful professors at both UW (the University of Wyoming and NOT the “other” UW) and UNR, I was able to go into a variety of classrooms comprised of undergraduate juniors and seniors (the target of the sample) and do my work, which consisted of displaying a mock web page and then having them complete a survey.

I am entering the data from well over my required N of 162 participants into SPSS and also Excel. I hope to be able to begin writing Chapters 4 and 5 this weekend.  Most of those chapters is already “stubbed out,” so the work should proceed smoothly.

The process ought to be simple but, of course, until SPSS has done its ‘thang’ it is hard to know whether I have “significance” or not. And at that, the interpretation of results is problematic only insofar as there is no right answer, only my interpretation subject to my committee’s review.

I march in graduation on May 14th and I do hope to be close to dissertation defense at that time. With summer upon us, my committee is likely to be away on vacations, so defense date setting will be a hit or miss affair. Stay tuned!

Thoughts? I’d love to hear from you!

About Dr Joseph Russo

Born and raised in Woodland Hills, California; now residing in Laramie, Wyoming (or "Laradise" as we call it, for good reason), with my wife Cindy, our little schnauzer, Macy Mae, and a cat named Markie. I hold a BBA from Cal State Northridge and an MBA from the University of Nevada at Reno. My first career was in business, for some 25+ years. In 2007, I shifted gears and entered the helping professions as a mental health counselor. I earned an MA in Educational Psychology and a Doctorate (PhD) in Counselor Education and Supervision. In my spare time I enjoy mentoring young and not-so-young business and non-profit executives as they go about growing their businesses and presence. I also teach part-time at the University of Wyoming, in both the Colleges of Education and Business.
